Meet Bethiah

From a deep passion for and experience with the body, I discovered massage.

After sustaining an injury that required me to pause my pursuits in the world of dance, I began massage training at McKinnon Body Therapy Center in Oakland, California in 2017. It was then that I developed a deeper understanding of the structure and functions of the body as well as the beneficial physical and emotional effects of massage in one’s healing process.

Modalities and services I offer include: Esalen Massage®, Swedish, Deep Tissue, Prenatal Massage and Reiki. My intention is always to meet you where you are at, to stay with you as compassionate support, and to assist you as you progress to where you’d like to be.

What I’ve learned is this: it all comes back to the body, it all comes back to the breath.

More about me…

I moved to Oakland from Upstate New York in 2014 to follow my love for Dance. Just two years into my time here I sustained an injury forcing me to take a step back from my movement practices. This was a deeply personal, meaningful and vital part of my decision in choosing my path in massage.

Without fully understanding my injury, I returned to dance too soon and continued to reinjure it. This was a difficult time of reevaluation of my relationship to my body and the role of dance in my life. Realizing I needed to know how my own body was functioning sparked a thirst in me to better understand the human body, injury, healing, and wellbeing.

With the encouragement of a dear friend and mentor, I attended the massage therapy program at McKinnon Body Therapy Center in 2017. My time at McKinnon gave me a new lens through which to view my injury, and to look at how I live with challenges that touch all levels of my being - physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual. What I’ve learned is this: it all comes back to the body, it all comes back to the breath.

In November of 2023, I took a step toward clarifying my approach to bodywork and completed the 100 hour professional Esalen Masssage® training at the Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California. At the heart of what I value most, and what I have since been able to bring more fully into my work, are presence and compassion. It is my honor to share this practice with you.

House of the Home?

In Astrology, the houses represent aspects of human experience. With six planets in my fourth house, including my sun and moon, the fourth house holds great importance for me. It is commonly referred to as the house of the home, as it is associated with home, roots, family, and self-care.

I believe that home is within and therefore that our bodies are our most intimate homes. I believe deeply in the power of nourishing touch and how it helps us to integrate all that has come before us, allowing us to come home physically, mentally, and emotionally.
